The Effect of Simazine, Kinetin, and Rhizobium Phaesoli on Legume Nodulation and Morphogenesis in Phaseolus Vularis

چکیده
The growth responses of Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv. "Red Kidney" plants to simazine at 5 x 10~M and 5 x 10^M, kinetin at 9 x 10~M and 9 x 10~M, and the presence or absence of Rhizobium phaseoli ATCC14482, in factorial combination, were measured. The plants were analyzed with respect to the lengths of the primary-through-quaternary leaves, stem height, fresh and dry weights, number of flowers, and number and size of nodules. An analysis of variance showed that simazine significantly depressed all parameters at both concentrations. Kinetin did not affect the lengths of the primary-through-tertiary leaves, but depressed the quaternary, and also decreased dry weights at the higher concentration. Kinetin had no effect on stem height; it decreased flowering, but enhanced modulation. The presence of Rhizobium had a significant effect only on flowering and nodulation, increasing both.

متن کاملApplying Reversible Mutations of Nodulation and Nitrogen-Fixation Genes to Study Social Cheating in Rhizobium etli-Legume Interaction
Mutualisms are common in nature, though these symbioses can be quite permeable to cheaters in situations where one individual parasitizes the other by discontinuing cooperation yet still exploits the benefits of the partnership. In the Rhizobium-legume system, there are two separate contexts, namely nodulation and nitrogen fixation processes, by which resident Rhizobium individuals can benefit ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of the rhizobia associated with Dalea spp. in the Ordway, Kellogg-Weaver Dunes, and Hayden prairies.
Habitat fragmentation affects the biodiversity and function of aboveground organisms in natural ecosystems but has not been studied for effects on belowground species. In this paper, we consider the diversity of the rhizobia associated with the indigenous legume Dalea purpurea in 3 residual prairie areas in Minnesota and Iowa. Using Dalea purpurea as a trap host, 218 rhizobia were recovered fro...
متن کاملMorphogenetic Rescue of Rhizobium meliloti Nodulation Mutants by trans-Zeatin Secretion.
The development of nitrogen-fixing nodules is induced on the roots of legume host plants by Rhizobium bacteria. We employed a novel strategy to probe the underlying mechanism of nodule morphogenesis in alfalfa roots using pTZS, a broad host range plasmid carrying a constitutive trans-zeatin secretion (tzs) gene from Agrobacterium tumefaciens T37. This plasmid suppressed the Nod- phenotype of Rh...
متن کاملCompetition Experiments for Legume Infection Identify Burkholderia phymatum as a Highly Competitive β-Rhizobium
Members of the genus Burkholderia (β-proteobacteria) have only recently been shown to be able to establish a nitrogen-fixing symbiosis with several legumes, which is why they are also referred to as β-rhizobia. Therefore, very little is known about the competitiveness of these species to nodulate different legume host plants. In this study, we tested the competitiveness of several Burkholderia ...
